Local Police Becoming Armies With Tax $

In the wake of the September 11th terrorist attacks the amount of money flowing from Washington to local police departments has been massive.

There is increasing concern that local police departments, armed with body armor, assault rifles, even tanks, constitute a growing threat to civil society. Ogden Utah has a “surveillance blimp.” Montgomery County Texas has its own $300,000 drone.

Money from the Department of Homeland Security has filtered out to the hinterlands creating highly militarized police forces ostensibly to fight “terrorism.” The weapons industry is happy to oblige.

This is the worst kind of tax dollar gravy train.
