This dispatch comes from the idyllic countryside of Massachusetts.
Just before Mother’s Day weekend armed environmental police showed up and shut down Mark Duffy’s ice cream stand. The reason? Improvements were made to the stand without proper permits.
Duffy has operated the dairy stand for 26 years and expanded the stand so he could show an instructional video produced by the Massachusetts dairy industry. But that didn’t matter to Edward Lambert, commissioner of the Department of Conservation and Recreation who said; “I like ice cream as much as anybody, so it pains us to even temporarily close what is an iconic property, but we have to make sure people eating ice cream there are safe.”
In its effort to keep the public safe the department posted officers at the dairy stand to make sure no ice cream was sold. That seems an efficient use of taxpayer funded manpower.
