If this happens I suggest those of us fortunate enough to have food on the table donate extra, perhaps a lot extra to food pantries this Thanksgiving.
Please note that 80-87% of the federal government remains open. There is money, tax revenue didn’t just shut off, and it can be allocated via the Treasury for those who are truly indigent and in need of food assistance.
But sadly I think that shutting down the White House tours, and the National Parks hasn’t made enough of an impact on Americans in this administration’s eyes. Now it’s time to turn off food stamps. America needs to feel the pain of the government shutdown. They need to see it.
If this doesn’t work to make the House capitulate, the next target will be Social Security checks but that is a dicier gamble.
