If you live in a wealthy part of the country it is very likely that you are represented in Congress by a Democrat. Often a very “liberal” Democrat. Why is this?
Not that the GOP is some sort of great alternative, but what compels so many rich people to vote for the big government (Democrat) candidate? Is it some sort of (perceived) nobless oblige? I doubt it. I think it has more to do with the fact that taxes tend not to impact the lifestyles of the very rich as much as those of us in the middle class.
Could it also be that the wealthiest among us are the best connected to the crony capitalist system where more government can equal getting paid? I think this is probably right.
Nothing better than getting in on a taxpayer subsidized algae farm on the ground floor. Let me tell you.

But in Congress, the wealthiest among us are more likely to be represented by a Democrat than a Republican. Of the 10 richest House districts, only two have Republican congressmen. Democrats claim the top six, sprinkled along the East and West coasts. Most are in overwhelmingly Democratic states like New York and California.
The richest: New York’s 12th Congressional District, which includes Manhattan’s Upper East Side, as well as parts of Queens and Brooklyn. Democrat Carolyn Maloney is in her 11th term representing the district.
Per capita income in Maloney’s district is $75,479.
