There is no “free lunch” and there is no “free” community college either

"I mean it's free for some people. Other people are going to have to pay. But they don't pay enough anyway. Am I right?"
“I mean it’s free for some people. Other people are going to have to pay. But they don’t pay enough anyway. Am I right?”

When the president says that he wants the government to pay for everyone to go to 2 years of community college what he is really saying is that he wants you to pay for everyone to go to community college. There is no “free” college. There is no “free” anything. Everything has a cost and I have to pay for college for 3 kids of my own in the not so distant future already. I don’t need yet another bill just because the president wants to throw some gifts to folks who voted for him.

If we are going to pay for everyone to go to college why stop at 2 years? Why not pay for 4? Or how about doctorates for all? (No, the professors wouldn’t like that.)  Hell, why not just give everyone jobs at 22 which they can “work” at until 32 (paid for by taxpayers) when they can “retire” with a taxpayer financed pension? Think about it, 100% employment! Why haven’t we thought of this before? Deficits don’t mean anything right? Especially with 0% interest rates which we all know are going to last forever. Run that credit card up!

And while we’re at it why don’t we issue everyone a Chevy Volt too? The auto unions will love that. The enviros will love it too. Plus everyone gets a “free” car! There are no ramifications. There are no consequences. Everything can be “free.”

Except that it can’t be. Someone must pay for all of these goodies, and typically it’s the middle class.
