This used to be tinfoil hat territory. (BTW I don’t think I’ve ever seen actual tin foil before.) Those were the days. Not anymore. If you don’t have a drivers license with a tracking chip you are not getting on a plane come 2016 according to this article. (You might get away with just a passport – when flying within the United States.)
The second part of this act is what will cause headaches for most in 2016. It is as follows: “Federal agencies [are prohibited] from accepting for official uses driver’s licenses…from states unless the [DHS] determines that the state meets the standards. Official uses are defined as accessing Federal facilities, entering nuclear power plants, and boarding Federally-regulated commercial aircraft. If your state doesn’t start offering the REAL ID’s, the government is going to prevent you from flying unless you have your passport and possibly other forms of ID if necessary.
