I don’t know what would have been more difficult to get through, the White House Correspondent’s Dinner last weekend or the The Bryce Harlow Foundation awards dinner, which brings the heaviest hitters in Congress and on K Street together to schmooze and give awards to one another. (That’s right, Congress gives awards to lobbyists, and the lobbyists give awards to members of Congress.)
Steny Hoyer appears to be very happy to be hanging out with the Gucci gulch crowd however.
At last week’s gala, when Minority Whip Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md., the second ranking Democrat in the House, introduced Steve Elmendorf, alobbyist for Goldman Sachs, Verizon, and other corporate interests, Hoyer was effusive in thanking his hosts. The Politico Influence newsletterquoted Hoyer as saying:
“I’m thankful to all of you for what you do because I think what you do is critically important to what I do and to what our people expect us to do, and that is to understand the issues that confront us and them and make the decisions that help them.”
