Looks like the editorial staff at The Washington Post is concerned about losing their gardeners. Nice of them to be concerned.
(From The Washington Examiner)
“Those include the fact that at least 8 million unauthorized immigrants are employed, most have been in this country for 15 years or longer, and typically they do jobs — tending crops, washing dishes, mowing lawns — that native-born Americans do not want,” the Post said. “In basic economic terms, illegal immigrants meet the labor market’s demand for lower-wage employees, for which there is a shortage of available legal workers.”
Of course if the minimum wage was raised to $15/hour, as presumably the liberal Post would want, these illegal immigrants, assuming they are on the books, would likely lose their jobs. But as the Post basically implies many of these people are NOT on the books and so would presumably keep their jobs at wage rates any good liberal would abhor, and which would be – officially – even worse in relative terms.
But good liberals need gardeners too. The up and up landscapers cost a fortune.
