This is where political correctness (a term coined by Marx) which is a type of religion, has taken us.
Science is racist. Just what South Africa needs, people who think witchcraft (which is indigenous) is equivalent (superior?) to the scientific method. Why? Because science is “Eurocentric.”
This kind of thinking ought to work out great for the country.
But the smug ignorance displayed by the woman in the attached video is the same I see displayed by some Americans on the “Left” who have abandoned the idea of “liberalism” completely and instead embraced the religion of grievance. Good luck succeeding. And oh, don’t complain when the engineers are making 10 times what you do in 5 years. But you will of course.
We now live in a world where the most basic understanding of reality is challenged. Many people, and I’ve seen them on this website, do not understand the simple concept of supply and demand for instance. They do not understand what markets are and why they make the world a better place for humanity. (In fairness they’ve likely never been taught.)They do not understand a+b=c. That this type of simple knowledge eludes so many, including as we witness here people at universities, is testament to a society that is too indulgent of ignorance. We in the West are failing if we continue to allow nonsense (as we see here) to replace the Enlightenment. The thing is folks, Western culture, for its failings (I get it, slavery, colonialism, etc.) is on the whole a miracle and the scientific method drove a good deal of that miracle.
And it should be pointed out that the achievements of the West belong to all people. So what if they were generated in Europe? That’s simply a matter of geography. Take these ideas. Improve them. Innovate. No one owns “science.”
Below is how dark ages begin however.
It is the duty of those of us who know better to fight back against this stuff. We can’t just ignore it and dismiss it as”stupid” anymore. Because these people, people who think the scientific method, the thing that has saved billions of lives and made the world immeasurably better for pretty much every single person on the planet is bad because it is “Eurocentric” only survive when people who know better don’t say anything. (And almost everyone knows better.) We’ve not said anything for decades. That time has to be over. Ignorance needs to be called out, particularly at universities where it is all too often celebrated. It’ll make some people “uncomfortable.” But that’s OK, grownups can be “uncomfortable.”
Many people laughed at this remark because, well, witchcraft is not something that happens. But according to the student, witchcraft is like Isaac Newton’s theory of gravity—it’s just one way of explaining the world, among many.
“Decolonising the science would mean doing away with it entirely and starting all over again to deal with how we respond to the environment and how we understand it,” the student continued.
Down with science: coming to an American university near you? It wouldn’t surprise me.
