Kentucky lawmaker proposes bill to abolish federal Department of Education

Thomas Massie is one of the few “good guys” on the Hill. The Department of Education was established in 1980 and its track record has not been strong. Education is something best left to local jurisdictions. The DoEd is a great example of government bloat that can be eliminated.

And don’t worry those of you who are appalled by Massie’s bill, people will still be educated without the Feds sticking their noses into everything. Better educated in many instances.

If passed, Massie’s bill would effectively dismantle the Department of Education by December 31, 2018.

Among those who are labeled as original co-sponsors of the bill include Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI), Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Rep. Jody Hice (R-GA), Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC), and Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID).

The Department of Education was created in 1980 and on Tuesday, Trump’s pick for Secretary of Education, Betsey DeVos, was confirmed by the Senate after a close vote of 51-50.
