CNN has been pushing its luck. It basically was all in for Hillary in the election and then post election it went all in against Trump. I’m not surprised that the administration made this decision. And really, it is CNN that made the decision.
Now this doesn’t mean CNN can’t cover the White House of course. It just means that it has lost its preferred membership card.
Sorry CNN you can go hang out with BuzzFeed and The Philadelphia Inquirer.
If I personally felt that CNN was doing good work and just being tough on the president I’d have a bigger problem with Trump singling CNN out (which of course sends a message to other news outlets). But I don’t feel that way. Here are some of the reasons I am crying no tears for The Cable News Network.
Look, it just stopped being professional.
The White House has refused to send its spokespeople or surrogates onto CNN shows, effectively icing out the network from on-air administration voices.
“We’re sending surrogates to places where we think it makes sense to promote our agenda,” said a White House official, acknowledging that CNN is not such a place, but adding that the ban is not permanent.
A CNN reporter, speaking on background, was more blunt: The White House is trying to punish the network and force down its ratings.
“They’re trying to cull CNN from the herd,” the reporter said.
