It’s Election Day in Virginia

Virginia is my home. The Old Dominion. The Commonwealth. The Mother of Presidents.

The state is split, like many states these days, between the urban and suburban and rural. The suburbs are the battleground. Unfortunately for the Republicans those suburbs are now filled with many transplants from the Northeast who came here for government jobs, or work in jobs closely tied with the government. As such statism is strongly entrenched in the traffic snarled and crowded Northern Virginia, and to a lesser extent in my home region of Hampton Roads in the state’s southeast. These folks know how their bread is buttered and they know that the long entrenched tax and spend culture works to their advantage. As such they tend to vote Democrat. This morning it looks like a pretty typical Virginia election. Things are basically tied for the governorship with the edge to Northam the Democrat.
