Virginia Election Results: Northam Defeats Gillespie in Governor Race

It was a very good night for the Democrats. Generally expected, but a solid win in a time when such wins have been few. In fact I can’t remember a good night for the Dems since 2012.

The GOP candidate, Gillespie, ran from Trump in many respects. This may have hurt him.

Virginia feeds off of the government in much of the state, and Republicans will continue to have a hard time in these districts. That is just the way it is. The urban Dem machine has bled over the Potomac and into Northern Virginia.

Interestingly, 6 in 10 of Virginians according to polls want the Confederate Statues to remain.
