Fired FBI official at center of Flynn, Clinton, dossier controversies revealed

This is disturbing. Leaks from the CIA during the transition to the Trump administration. This from the FBI. One definitely gets the sense that the government employees were unhappy with the change the Trump administration was likely to bring to their worlds. A world that had been put on a pedestal by a deeply pro-bureaucracy President Obama. Clinton was also deeply pro-bureaucracy.

That the FBI changed the wording of the Clinton email report from “grossly negligent” (which would have meant the FBI would likely have to prosecute Hillary Clinton) to “extremely careless” should give every American pause. This is what I am concerned with at least as much as Flynn talking with the Russians, which in a time of transition doesn’t seem terribly unusual to me. I am sure past administrations have talked to the Saudis and the Israelis for instance during transitions. Heck, administrations probably talked with the Russians even during the Soviet era.

Are we giving Flynn a pass? No. How could we? No one gets a pass. We’re watching just like everyone else. But that Clinton thinks she can just skate away seems wrong. And one wonders if heading off any effort to go after the Clinton machine is the reason behind the all out assault on Trump from the losing party and the bureaucracy. There’s a lot to account for in those Obama years.

Strzok, a former deputy to the assistant director for counterintelligence at the FBI, oversaw the bureau’s interviews of ousted National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, changed former FBI Director James Comey’s early draft language about Hillary Clinton’s actions regarding her private email server from “grossly negligent” to “extremely careless,” conducted the FBI interview of Clinton and reportedly helped push the largely unverified dossier on Trump that was initially prepared by Fusion GPS for the Clinton campaign’s opposition research.

Strzok’s messages were reportedly not only anti-Trump, but also pro-Hillary. That has raised the ire of critics because, prior to joining Mueller’s probe, he made edits to Comey’s speech exonerating Hillary Clinton.

The language being edited was important because classified material that’s been mishandled for “gross negligence” calls for criminal consequences, analysts point out.

Flynn pleaded guilty Friday to lying to the FBI about reaching out to Russian officials. Prosecutors said Flynn in December 2016 asked Russia’s ambassador to the U.S., Sergei Kislyak, not to escalate the situation after the outgoing Obama administration imposed sanctions on Russia in retaliation for suspected election interference.

Were the sanctions a response to supposed “meddling” or were the sanctions used as a tripwire for the new administration? The Obama team knew that Trump did not see Putin as the mortal enemy that they did. (Hillary/Obama and Putin had personal issues.) And it must be noted that Hillary Clinton said that going into Syria (and removing Russian allied Assad) was “the number 1 priority” in the region. (As opposed to destroying ISIS.) She wanted war. The establishment wanted war. They had something to prove. And then Trump won, to their shock

Flynn left the White House in February after acknowledging that he had given an incomplete account to Vice President Mike Pence about his contacts regarding Russia.

The wording change came to light last month after newly reported memos to Congress showed that a May 2016 draft of Comey’s statement closing out the email investigation accused the former secretary of state of being “grossly negligent.” A June 2016 draft stated Clinton had been “extremely careless.”

The modified language was final when Comey announced in July 2016 that Clinton wouldn’t face any charges in the email investigation.
