George Soros Fears Free Speech and Dialogue: Says, Facebook and Google a menace to society, “Their days are numbered”

Yeah, those peasants need to shut up! Who are they to speak? Life was much better when all the information was clustered around a few centralized nodes that were easy for people like George Soros to control.

And Google’s not censoring things enough for you George? Are you kidding?

Soros is an enemy of free speech and indeed an enemy of freedom itself.

Facebook and Google have become “obstacles to innovation” and are a “menace” to society whose “days are numbered”, said billionaire investor and philanthropist George Soros at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday.

Really? Obstacles to innovation? That’s funny, online collaboration helps facilitate innovation. And social media’s “days are numbered”? OK, so this is just a flat out threat to social media companies and to those of us who believe in free communication and free speech. So who’s going to take them down. You? You’d like to.

“Mining and oil companies exploit the physical environment; social media companies exploit the social environment,” said the Hungarian-American businessman, according to a transcript of his speech.

Mr. Soros you invest in mining and drilling and oil and coal all over the world. Give the “exploiting the environment” thing a rest. Just for decency sake.

“This is particularly nefarious because social media companies influence how people think and behave without them even being aware of it. This has far-reaching adverse consequences on the functioning of democracy, particularly on the integrity of elections.”

Because you know, the rabble are too dumb to understand that they are being manipulated. You know, like all those people who showed up at the “woman’s march” Mr. Soros helped fund. (Your people Mr. Soros, might not be able to see through the information chaff but our readers seem to be able to.)

In addition to skewing democracy, social media companies “deceive their users by manipulating their attention and directing it towards their own commercial purposes” and “deliberately engineer addiction to the services they provide”. The latter, he said, “can be very harmful, particularly for adolescents”.

So see, speech and communication are like a drug. They must be regulated for the good of the youth, not because oligarchs like Soros can’t stand that the average person has a voice now. No, that’s not the reason at all.

Fight this guy.
