It’s been a long time since the Republican Party has referred to itself as “the party of small government.” It was never true but the neocon Bushites killed the idea for good. And today many in the the GOP further empowered the state and kept alive one of the great Bush mistakes. Yay! Let’s continue the authoritarian post-September 11th, anti-constitutional violation of the rights of the citizenry.
And don’t act like the Dems would have done anything different if they had a Dem president.
(From The Hill)
In a victory for the Trump administration, the House on Thursday approved legislation to renew government surveillance powers while voting down new limits on how authorities can use the information that is collected.
Just a few hours before the vote, President Trump roiled the waters by sending out a tweet that appeared to contradict his own administration’s opposition to the changes, which were offered by Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.).
That amendment failed by a vote of 183-233.
It might be a “victory for the Trump administration,” but it’s a big loss for the American people. Make no mistake about that.
Statism marches on whether the GOP or Democrats are in control. But the surveillance state lobbyists will be popping champagne corks tonight.
