Trump to rid ‘worst’ federal workers, automatic raises, fat bennies

Good. We suggested recently that Trump get rolling by getting rid of the 50% “worst” civilian staff at the Pentagon. That’d be a good start. But we should do the same at the EPA, Education, State (despite what you’ve heard we can have a much smaller State Department. There is little need for an agency that is still staffed for a world run on telegrams), the whole mess.

You think I’m joking.

Just buy these folks out and then let’s move on with a much leaner government. Half of the people at these places are just waiting for retirement anyway.

You think I’m joking.

(From The Washington Examiner)

President Trump plans to take the huge federal Civil Service off cruise control, ending automatic pay increases that go to 99.7 percent of the workforce, trimming fat benefit packages, and for the “worst,” rolling out his trademark phrase from The Apprentice, “You’re fired!”

In his budget, set for release Monday, his administration is planning the biggest reform to the federal workforce in decades, using models from Amazon, Google, and a handful of well-operating agencies.

This is perhaps THE most important area of government that Trump can reform. Dramatically trimming the federal bureaucracy is key to getting this country in order. If he is able to curtail Leviathan, and really reduce its gravitational pull, that is something conservatives (even never-Trumper conservatives) and libertarians won’t be able to dismiss. Cutting the federal workforce in a real way would be a win for the American taxpayer. The bigger the cut, the bigger the win. (Trump’s never going to sway the people in Northern Virginia or Southern Maryland to his side anyway.)

The officials, speaking on background, did not say how large or small they expect the bureaucracy to be after the three-year reform effort, but it was clear that many workers in jobs that private industry has automated will be out.

Oh, let us hope so!
