Trump to NFL anthem kneelers: ‘Maybe you shouldn’t be in the country’

Well, Trump had been doing reasonably well for a while on the bombastic front. But this statement is just silly. If some players want to kneel let them and then the players and the team will be fined.

What the NFL did was a business decision. If the NFL didn’t ban the grandstanding, fans would continue to turn off games. It is the fans who ultimately pay the players and the fans didn’t like the kneeling. The NFL wanted to continue to exist. And yes I think it was that serious, over time.

But just because someone DOES kneel during the anthem or whatever doesn’t mean that that person “shouldn’t be in the country.” Come on.

We give Trump some leeway with his style. He is a bull. And sometimes that is warranted. But sometimes he can be an ass too.

The policy requires players and personnel to stand for “The Star-Spangled Banner” or face fines — though each team may develop its own rules about those who do not comply with the new rules.

The new policy also gives players the option to stay in the locker room during the playing of the anthem if they do not wish to comply.

“Well I think that’s good,” Trump told Fox News. “I don’t think people should be staying in locker rooms. But still I think it’s good. You have to stand proudly for the National Anthem,” he said.

“You shouldn’t be playing, you shouldn’t be there. Maybe they shouldn’t be in the country,” he added.

The president credited the fans for pushing the league to take a stand.
