President Donald Trump has granted clemency to Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old grandmother imprisoned for life because of non-violent drug offenses

We are pleased to hear this. There must be thousands more like her. (Hopefully NOT serving life sentences, but too long.) These people also should be considered. Carter forgave the draft evaders. Why not forgive the non-violent drug offenders? (At the very least on a very expedited case by case basis.)

Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old grandmother who was serving a life sentence in prison for non-violent drug offenses she committed in the 1990s, will finally be free.

President Donald Trump granted Johnson clemency on Wednesday, Johnson’s attorney Shawn Holley told Business Insider. The move came one week after Trump met with the reality TV star Kim Kardashian West, who has been championing her release for months.

Holley said it wasn’t yet clear whether Trump had granted Johnson a pardon or a sentence commutation, though the latter was more likely. The White House didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
