The classification of information is an interesting tool of the political class.
There are certainly instances where information should be classified, and say kept off of one’s private server in ones bathroom. But, ahem, the classification process is often used to keep the goings-on of the state hidden from the public only because that information would be inconvenient for the powers that be if the public became aware of it. Sure the location of communication satellites and launch codes shouldn’t be public information probably, but much else is secret that should not be.
This is likely the case with the Carter Page situation. Pelosi, Schumer, Schiff, and Warner, all top notch and totally ethical politicians to be sure, are concerned that the truth of what happened in the Trump investigation might be made plain for all to see. That worries them. Just like it worries that top notch and ethical politician Eric Holder.
Right now there is cover for the Dems. The only people (outside of the Swamp) who really have a sense of the nastiness at the FBI (and beyond) pre and post-2016 election are the partisan news hounds. If real sketchiness were brought to light for all to see, in a way that even CNN and MSNBC couldn’t deny, that would be catastrophic (most likely) for the old guard Democrats. It would also empower Trump. Pelosi, Schumer, Schiff, and Warner cannot have that under any circumstances. Truth and transparency be damned.
In the letter, the lawmakers “express profound alarm” at the decision to “intervene in an ongoing law enforcement investigation that may implicate the President himself or those around him.”
“Any decision by your offices to share this material with the President or his lawyers will violate longstanding Department of Justice polices, as well as assurances you have provided to us.”
Wait. What was that? “Assurances you have provided US?”
