Trump Issues Major Declaration for California Fires; Death Toll Climbs to 44

The death toll in California wildfires rose to 44 people Monday night as President Donald Trump issued a major declaration for the blazes that are [the] most destructive and deadly in the state’s history. . . .

Trump approved the request Sunday by Gov. Jerry Brown for a major declaration that “provides a wide range of federal assistance programs for individuals and public infrastructure, including funds for both emergency and permanent work,” according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
