After GM’s announcement to close five plants and layoff 15,000 employees, President Trump threatened to end government subsidies for GM. But he hasn’t stopped there.
Now he’s following that threat up with a demand that GM repay the $11.2 billion in bailouts GM received during the financial crisis – good luck with that.
“If GM doesn’t want to keep their jobs in the United States, they should pay back the $11.2 billion bailout that was funded by the American taxpayer,” read a tweet from a Trump fan account that the president and Mnuchin retweeted. Trump also retweeted two tweets about illegal immigration.
