Don’t Cry for Federal Workers That Are Furloughed Because of the Government Shutdown


Federal employees on average make 17% more than similar workers in the private sector, most will still receive health benefits through the shutdown and they’ll get their back pay when they return. Almost sounds like a vacation.

The real cost to the private sector is in the form of industries that are paralyzed as a result of understaffed federal regulatory agencies.

When the private sector isn’t allowed to function without regular certification and inspection from federal agents, that means shutdowns prevent the private sector from functioning.
