Honestly, how great would that be? The government employees would have fits. And remember this “shutdown” isn’t even a shutdown. It’s not like all the aircraft carriers are just pulling off to the side of the road.
Here at The Sorrentino it is not lost on us that this is a battle over spending yet MORE taxpayer money. Trump wants a wall. Dems don’t and want to spend on other stuff. As such the shutdown is fundamentally about moving in the wrong direction. However, it is interesting that the Democrats are so wedded to the south of the border electoral strategy that they are willing to be so stubborn on 5 billion dollars that normally wouldn’t cause those big spenders (of YOUR money) to bat an eye. That really is remarkable.
The Dems think they have the winning hand, and perhaps they do. We’ll see. But the headiness they feel as they take over the House may be short lived. The Dems think they’ve got California and the urban areas locked up and that will be enough, especially if they can execute on the south of the border electoral strategy. But politics is a weird thing and 2020 is not going to be anything like the easy win some Dems seem to think it will be.
(From the New York Post)
President Trump and top congressional Democrats on Friday failed to reach a deal on a spending plan that would end the two-week-old government shutdown — but agreed to keep talking, even though the president warned that the shutdown could continue for years…
… “We agreed that we will continue our conversations.”
