Witness in Drug Cartel Kingpin Trial Alleges $100 Million Bribe Paid

A witness at the trial of drug cartel leader Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán made an uncorroborated claim that a bribe of $100 million was paid to former Mexican President Peña Nieto, who through a spokesman dismissed the charge as absurd.

The judge in the case, Brian Cogan admonished Lichtman for having gone “far afield of direct or circumstantial proof”. He said he would instruct the jury to focus on the evidence.
